Clothing swap and do-it-yourself workshop in which a community explores creative reuse through the recycling of used clothing. Free for the public to participate, bring unwanted clothing/accessories. Sewing machines and notions will be available to alter items on-site www.swaporamarama.org

Why Swap
Swap-O-Rama-Rama utilizes the existing surplus of clothing to create new-recycled goods. In d.i.y spirit, through workshops and the collectivizing of ideas, it helps each individual break down the barrier between consumer and creator while inviting all to reclaim the creativity that has been lost to industry. Left over clothing will be donated to Second Chances. www.secondchances.org

What to Expect
The Swap: When you attend the swap bring any amount of unwanted clothing. Every swap begins with a giant collective pile of clothing, the unwanted clothing of all who attend. Everyone is welcome to dive in and find their next new/used items from the pile. Ideas of what to bring...clothes you bought and never wore, tragic shopping mistakes, well worn and loved items that have exceeded their stay in the closet, unloved gifts that you held on to out of obligation.

DIY Stations
After you have chosen your new clothes slide on over to one of the sewing stations. The Sewing and Vacuum Center in Somerville will be supplying the machines and assisting/instructing on how to properly use machines. Designers will also be available to share their sewing and modification secrets with you. ENJOY!
